Stupid Halloween candy. Or maybe I should say stupid me for eating it. Yeah, that's more like it. I was hoping to be even this week, but didn't make it. ( Da Numbers )

Ugh. I had a nasty cold, which was followed by something else that was like a cold on steroids, so I've been kind of out of commission for the last few weeks. No good. It's so annoying because I was on such a roll with the workouts too.
Anyhow, as usual, I'm getting back on the wagon because I'm finally feeling up to working out again. For whatever it's worth, I've been doing some stretches, and I've been doing like five or ten minute ab workouts, but I've gotta say, I'm really looking forward to picking up with the workouts again.
I have tomorrow off (woo hooo!), so I think I'm gonna run tomorrow while Jilly naps. Sounds like a plan to me!
How's everyone doing?

From a friend over on LJ.......
Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc.. Presently, he is heading the Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad, a suburb of M'umbai, India (W).
The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know:
The only portals of germ entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap)..
3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*
5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Time to kick my ass in gear. I knew it was going to be another gain this week. I simply haven't tried to lose weight. Once you fall off the bandwagon it's hard to get back on. Especially with all the holidays coming now. So the news is not good this week. ( Da Numbers )

Dove Evolution
This is something everyone should check out. As much as I know that everything is photoshopped, I think that most people underestimate just how altered everything really is. What's scary is that these heavily altered, completely unrealistic images considerably shape the common person's idea and perception of what beauty is and sets unrealistic standards for pretty much everyone.

Well, it was time to get back on the scale. It has been a month since I last weighed in, and I knew there was going to be a weight gain. It was just a matter of how bad was that weight gain going to be.
I think I lucked out fairly well in that department. ( Da Numbers )

Well, I feel pretty awesome because I ran on Sunday, and I ran today. I also lifted weights at home tonight, mostly upper body stuff. Wooo! I'm basically trying to run 2-3x a week. It's not a lot, but it's something I can commit to, and I feel good about that. Also, I'm psyched that my runs are getting easier because it's a sign that I am becoming more fit.
In other diet news, today I got a food scale to help me with portion control. Should be interesting to see how that goes!
How is everyone else doing?

Well, I am back home from vacation. I have until next Monday night to be naughty with my diet. :p I did really well while I was at Disney, but after I left there and had a chance to sit and relax, I started eating and eating and eating. :o It's chilly here. I will need to start bundling up if I try to walk outside. That is if it decides to stop raining. My dad said there is a chance of snow later in the week. OMg, it's way too early for that. :o

Check out these pumpkin bread recipes from Cooking Light! I made the second one, but I omitted the pecans and substituted a mix of oat, pastry whole wheat, and white flours instead of all purpose. More fiber and still yummy!

Quick update...
Food has been horrendous.
Workouts have been good! I managed to go running twice this week, and I also squeezed in a really good weight lifting workout! What's been working for me is committing to shorter workouts because it's almost impossible to talk myself out of them, and...once I start, I usually end up working out longer. So, for example, I'll tell myself...I'm just going to warm up, run two miles, and cool down. You know? Basically, doing a few 20-30 minute workouts a week is better than getting one 45 minute long workout twice a month.
Now...if I can just keep up the workouts and address that whole food thing, then maybe the scale would get unstuck and move in the right direction....
Off to the journal to catalogue food intake....
How's everyone doing??

In about 4 more hours I will be catching the shuttle to ride up to the Minneapolis airport. That is where I will be catching my plane out of here in the morning. Originally I was leaving just after 6 am which meant taking the first shuttle in the morning would be cutting it close. So I decided to spend the night in the airport. Now I am leaving at 7:25 am, but I decided to just keep my over night stay and take it easy getting through security and finding my way around. Which could be fun seeing as my flight doesn't have a gate assigned to it yet. :p Plus right now I am tired enough to actually get some sleep at the airport. *YAWN* Anyway, I am going to be without internet for awhile at least until I get to my brother's place on the 28th. Not sure how much I will be able to get on there either. So I apologize ahead of time for missing all of your up coming entries. I will be back home late on October 5th. Please update me when I get back with what has been going on in your lifes.

A lot of people have been asking about detox diets recently, and I thought this article was really good and really illuminating..it does a really good job illuminating the thin/healthy diet/detox relationship. Check it out.

If you were to go off your diet, what's the first thing you would eat that's not "good"?
It took me a good 12 hours plus to break down and eat something "naughty". lol... And what did I finally have? I had some toasted marshmellows and Special K bars. One of my brothers and SIL were having a picnic and bonfires and marshmellows so go together. :) It was so YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Well, I did it again. :p It was one of those weeks where I thought for sure I had gained some weight. Seriously, I was expecting a pound or two. Surprise… Technically it's a lose, and I am sticking by that. :p

I joined this group a couple months ago but have yet to post! My name is Jeann and I have been working out and eating healthy for the past 4 months. I lost 23-26 pounds, as it fluctuates, and I'm starting to hit what is often described the 'plateau'. However, I feel (more) fit than I have ever bee-- I run 2.5 miles 4-5 times a week and eat plenty of nutritious meals. I am just wondering - - I am not eager to lose more weight, but rather maintain the weight I am at. Is it possible to reduce my exercise routine and maintain a moderate to mostly healthy eating routine to maintain the weight that I'm at? I am feeling afraid that I will put all my hard work to waste by gaining it back in a matter of weeks! I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions.
