12:53 pm - Type Type Type and then it's Back To Work
|
I have so much that I want to say and to write about, but it will have to wait because I'm running out of time here...
In other news, I found a new song that I like a lot. They play it a lot on KSBJ and it's called "More" by Matthew West.
Take a look at the mountain Stretching a mile high Take a look at the ocean Far as your eye can see And think of Me
Take a look at the desert Do you feel like a grain of sand? I am with you wherever Where you go is where I am
And I'm always thinking of you Take a look around you I'm spelling it out one by one
(Chorus) I love you more than the sun And the stars that I taught how to shine You are mine, and you shine for me too I love you yesterday and today And tomorrow, I'll say it again and again I love you more
Just a face in the city Just a tear on a crowded street But you are one in a million And you belong to Me
And I want you to know That I'm not letting go Even when you come undone
(Chorus) I love you more than the sun And the stars that I taught how to shine You are mine, and you shine for me too I love you yesterday and today And tomorrow, I'll say it again and again I love you more
Shine for Me Shine for Me Shine on, shine on Shine for Me
(Chorus) I love you more than the sun And the stars that I taught how to shine You are mine, and you shine for me too I love you yesterday and today And tomorrow, I'll say it again and again I love you more

Which Naruto Character are You? quiz by orangeday.net
It's hard to read so I'll type what it says about me here: "Intelligent, confident, but sometimes a smart ass. You hide your true self to tough it out. When you love, you love hard."
Hmm...Very weird. I wonder if there are some translation problems here or if someone just has really bad grammar.

9:42 pm - an excerpt from The Ballad of the White Horse by G.K. Chesterton
|
"And now I blow the hunting sign, Charge some by rule and rod; But when I blow the battle sign, Charge all and go to God."
Wild stared the Danes at the double ways Where they loitered, all at large, As that dark line for the last time Doubled the knee to charge--
And caught their weapons clumsily, And marvelled how and why-- In such degree, by rule and rod, The people of the peace of God Went roaring down to die.
And when the last arrow Was fitted and was flown, When the broken shield hung on the breast, And the hopeless lance was laid in rest, And the hopeless horn blown,
The King looked up, and what he saw Was a great light like death, For Our Lady stood on the standards rent, As lonely and as innocent As when between white walls she went And the lilies of Nazareth.
One instant in a still light He saw Our Lady then, Her dress was soft as western sky, And she was a queen most womanly-- But she was a queen of men.
Over the iron forest He saw Our Lady stand, Her eyes were sad withouten art, And seven swords were in her heart-- But one was in her hand."

Which Disney Princess are you?
Interesting... Aurora is kind of boring but since she ends up with Prince Phillip who is by far the best Disney hero I think I can deal with it...

The Shining
Faith pours from your walls, drowning your calls I've tried to hear, you're not near. Remembering when I saw your face, shining my way, pure timing. Now I've fallen in deep, slow silent sleep, It's killing me, I'm dying.
To put a little bit of sunshine in your life
Soleil all over you, warm sun pours over me Soleil all over you Warm sun
Now this slick fallen rift, came like a gift Your body moves ever nearer And you will dry this tear Now that we're here, and grieve for me, not history But now I'm dry of thoughts, wait for the rain, Then it's replaced, sun setting
And suddenly we're in love with everything.
Soleil all over you, warm sun pours over me Soleil all over you Warm sun.

1:01 pm - Friendly Reminder
|
"Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, partial will pass away. . .At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

You're a pretty average person. You are linear and fairly straightforward. Hence, you lead a pretty normal life. You are the function...y=x
What Math Function Are You? brought to you by Quizilla
Haha. I really enjoyed this quiz! It was semi-witty compared to most stuff on Quizilla these days. Now if only these kids would figure out that the title should include the word "which" rather than the word "what." Everybody repeat after me: "WHICH fill-in-the-blank-inanimate-object are you?"
I feel better now. Thank you.

5:21 pm - forget cliff notes...
|
This website really made me laugh out loud! I came across a reference to "Book-a-Minute Classics" in some random guy's blog. Who needs cliff notes when we have this? Here's how they do "Beowulf":
Book-A-Minute Classics
Beowulf
Hrothgar: Let's build a big old dining hall and call it Herot.
(They do. Then Grendel, an ugly guy, takes over Herot and eats people. Beowulf rips his arm off.)
All: You rule, Beowulf.
(Some people make SPEECHES and tell IRRELEVANT STORIES. Beowulf kills some more STUFF.)
Beowulf: Wiglaf, I'm dying. See that my funeral pyre fits my greatness.
Wiglaf: Ok.

3:37 pm - my lack of literature
|
Okay, I'm back... However, I have a new topic in mind. I am now contemplating the unfairness of the fact that I have neither access to a bookstore/decent library nor the time to actually read. I was just in the campus bookstore a few minutes ago, torturing myself by looking at all the books I would like to get my hands on. Don't get me wrong, our bookstore does NOT have a good selection. Pas de tout. But they do have some books that look interesting... Just "not-worth-breaking-a-twenty" interesting. Seriously, you can't go into our bookstore with less than $20. Quelle horreur! Here are some books that looked vaguely interesting:
The Pursuit of Love & Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland

1:40 pm - On the peculiarity of college
|
"College is peculiar." (that quote was brought to you by Ben Gibson.)
But I definitely agree. I don't think I ever could have possibly forseen all this. My dad always said that he thought I'd "like" college. I think he knew I would thrive in this kind of peculiar environment.
Hmm... Perhaps I will reflect more on this fascinating subject when I return from my French class...

11:12 pm - cheese and crackers
|
What's wrong with me? Here it is, late at night and I have absolutely no inclination to study. I just want to eat cheese and crackers (we have no chocolate...it's so tragic!) and listen to my secondhand music and think about things. This is NOT healthy...
Yikes! Now I REALLY have to stop! I left for a few minutes and ended up talking to Monica. The next thing you know, I'm helping HER set up a Blurty!! Oh dear.
I'm now responsible for setting up a grand total of FOUR different people with online journals. Actually, it's five if you count Kris... I think Blurty owes me some sort of commission or blue ribbon or something.
I'm going to bed now... I mean it...
G'night, all you crazy Blurty people!

Well, I have officially corrupted my roommate, Lauren! Not only am I responsible for her newfound love of AIM, but now I have also encouraged her to get a Blurty. Not that this is all bad, of course! Now I get to read the hilarious stuff that she writes! This is definitely a win-win situation...
Last night was tons of fun, though we cannot possibly do it all the time. Lauren and I went to the PDK and bought little pints of "Moo-llenium Crunch" ice cream and gummy bears. I also splurged on a Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino. We then took all our sugary loot and had a "picnic" on the terrace of Upper Haggar. Ah, bliss! For about half an hour she could pretend that she had no midterm the next morning and I could pretend that I had no homework whatsoever!
Good times, good times!

You're an ENFP
What's there to say about you? You're an initiator of change and are keenly in tune to possibilities... you're enthusiastic, and it's contagious...you're tireless in the pursuit of newfound interests... You can anticipate the needs of others, and offer them needed help and appreciation. You bring zest, livelihood, and fun to all aspects of your life...
You're agreeable, sociable, outgoing and like to imagine yourself in the future... who will you marry? what type of work will you do? where will you live? All questions you ask yourself...you like to keep your options open...you're imaginative...curious...you prefer to understand than judge..
You see endless possibilities. You hate to be boxed into anything -- like a career -- for life...so you hesitate and resist making decisions...always look for new and novel...
You like a learning environment where the teacher takes a personal interest in you...You're motto might be: "There's always a better way or a better answer.."... when you're committed to something, you are enthusiastic to the point of preaching to the whole world about it (...like the Storm Palace?)
Your style of organization is... well, personalized. Others don't really see you as organized, though, do they? YOU know what's where, and there's a "method to your madness," huh?
You have a hard time separating work from leisure, since you have fun while you work. You're always on the lookout for new things... you like learning with others, so you'll invite 'em to join you at films, plays and classes.
When you fall in love, you study the other person in every way. The one you fall in love with is "the best ever" a lot, huh? Sheesh. But others feel unconditionally loved by you ....you fall head over heels and get in love FAST. You are charming...full of vitality...you treat others with sympathy, gentleness, and warmth...
Last part: watch out for losing your focus 'cause you wanna try too many ideas at the same time... you don't prioritize, so you can overload...also, because you're just a fun-loving animal, you might not complete important work and basic responsibilities...
